This release
Build 254 is a patch to V2R28B242 from 2024-12-02 with a few additional misc. improvements.
Release 28 introduces functionality to export project templates to file, and to later import them in another database. This way you can share your work and best practices with other teams.
The import function is available in the Create Project dialog, and the export function from the Clone Project dialog on the Kairos tab.
The regular clone project function has also been improved when cloning a project that has some or all work completed. The clone is always created as a project in the Idea state, with no work done. With this release time estimates for the cloned project are set based on actual work done and on the original time estimates or updates in an intelligent manner.
Settings for Categories, Work Types and Hour Costs can also be exported to file and imported when setting up a new database.

The calendar on the right side of the Home tab gives you a quick overview of what is going on, for you or for everyone on a specific day. Release 28 makes these calendars more useful with new interactions.
Clicking on a date now brings up an overlay with information about any work schedule events for that day, and a pie menu that lets you quickly add or edit work schedule rules.
There is also a new Working From Home symbol that can be toggled from this menu, or by ctrl-clicking on a date. It will not affect any scheduling and is only intended as a convenient signal whether you will be in the office or working from somewhere else.
The Work Schedule tab has also been improved. Keyboard interactions to pan and zoom are now available on this page. You can double click on an event on the timeline to select and open the corresponding rule. With yourself selected in the peoples column you can double click on the timeline to initiate creating a new rule with that starting date. With a date selector in focus you can click on the timeline to set the date.
The new delete old entries buttons lets you quickly delete all work schedule rules older than a selected date.
Activity symbols on the Kairos view will for many view modes use the area to represent amount of work. By default the normal size will correspond to 40 hours of work. Release 28 introduces a system setting that can change this to 24 or 12 hours. This setting is available under Settings / System Settings with the name Activity Reference Size, and affects all users of the database.
The way project plan data is saved has changed. Moving an item on the work area in Kairos view now only saves the new position, not other settings. This reduces the risk of inadvertently overwriting changes made by someone else. And editing a plan item will not overwrite its position. This makes working together when creating a plan easier.
The time estimate for External Activities are now allowed to be up to 9999 hours. The dialog has been updated to show the time as days or weeks for large numbers.
If you are not familiar with the shorthand syntax for entering time estimates with text, read this help entry.
Descriptions in dialogs or on the description overlay can now be a target for drag and drop operations.
Dropping files on the description creates named links to the files. Make sure the path is to a shared resource valid for all intended users, or the link will only work for you.
Dropping html links on a description field adds it as a link that opens in the default web browser.
Dropping an email copies the subject as a header, sender and recipients as email links and the email body as text to the description. Exactly how this works depends on how the email is formatted, the source program and the operating system. Technically it needs an .eml file to be dropped.
Dropping text adds the dropped text.
All text added by a drag and drop operation is added last in the description.
All description fields are limited to 4000 characters (except the shared ToDo notes on the home tab). This limit is now visibly enforced instead of silently failing to save.
It is recommended that all users update and use the latest version. This version and older versions can be used on the same database, but there are some compatibility issues:
Older versions will not see the Working from home symbol in the Calendar. Instead they will se it as an anonymous row in the Work Schedule tab. If you set a estimate for an external activity above 999 hours, it can not be edited by an older version without changingit below the old limit. The Activity Reference Size setting will not affect older versions. They will always use the default 40 h reference size.
